Why See An Infectious Disease Specialist?
An Infectious Disease specialist has specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of infections. You may need to see an Infectious Disease specialist if you have a severe or difficult to treat infection, require prolonged antibiotic therapy, or if you have a suspected infection that has not been diagnosed. Infectious Diseases specialists can also manage intravenous (IV) antibiotic administration in the outpatient setting to avoid hospital admission. In addition, Infectious Diseases specialists offer counseling, vaccinations, and medications for the prevention of infections.
